Our child has developed his reading and writing skills lots in just a year at school.  He likes to come to school and I love to hear what he has learnt and see how confident and proud he is of himself.

 Admissions

Admissions are managed centrally through the local authority, please see the link below for all the information. Children are admitted to Reception in accordance with the policy of North Yorkshire County Council. Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. Please contact the school office to arrange a visit and to find out about the admissions date for the coming year.  Please follow the link to find out about the North Yorkshire Admissions Policy.

Reception

All Reception aged children (the September of the year in which your child will be five) will join the school from September - there is only one intake each year. North Yorkshire's Education Department deals with applications for Reception admissions. Telephone 01609 533679 or go to www.northyorks.gov.uk

Induction for Nursery and Reception Children

Once we know your child has been offered a place in our Nursery, our Nursery teacher will visit parents and children at home to complete an induction pack and you are then invited to visit school with your child. When your child is starting school full time in Reception, we invite new parents and children to an introduction meeting to see their new classroom and meet the Reception class staff before starting in the Autumn term.

In Year Admissions: Year 1 to 6

For families moving into the area, or for children changing schools during the year, in-year admissions to the school are dealt with by North Yorkshire County Council at www.northyorks.gov.uk or telephone the In-Year admissions team on 01609 533679.

If your child is at school at another local school, please discuss your request for a move with your child's current school setting.

We warmly welcome visits from prospective parents at any time. Please telephone the school office on 01524 261412.

Attendance:

At Bentham Community Primary School we want every child to reach their full potential and our team work hard to ensure this is possible.  However, for this to happen children need to be in school.  We politely ask that parents should only apply for leave of absence in exceptional circumstances and that medical and dental appointments are made outside of the school day.  Punctuality is equally important, the school doors open at 9.00am.

Various research highlights the importance of children attending school.  Importantly for a child to have the best chance of success their attendance needs to be at or above 97%.

At Bentham we celebrate attendance and award children with attendance certificates.  We also award the class with the highest attendance each week.
